More Info on the Dr. Harold Freeman Patient Navigation review course:
NCBC cannot provide training due to accreditation stipulations, so we have offered to have the Harold Freeman Patient Navigation Institute provide a review course. Dr. Freeman, the father of patient navigation, has developed this one-day breast specific navigation review course. This course was designed to help you review the flow of navigation as well as the barriers to care that you, as a navigator, must help patients overcome. This course costs $499 and you can register online through our registration system or by calling the Patient Navigation Institute. This course was not designed to teach you about imaging or oncology, you should already know that if you are working in the field. This course teaches the specifically about navigation and reducing the barriers to care. Cost for the Harold Freeman Patient Navigation review course is $499. Cost for the Certification exam, plus a free Independent Breast Health Membership is $295.
*DISCLAIMER: THE NCBC AND THE HAROLD FREEMAN PATIENT NAVIGATION INSTITUTE (HFPNI) ARE SEPARATE ORGANIZATIONS. TAKING THE REVIEW COURSE DOES NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF A PASSING SCORE ON THE NCBC EXAM. THE HFPNI DOES NOT HAVE ACCESS TO OUR EXAM.
Application/Registration is required at least 1 week prior to testing at each location. Those who need an accommodation and can supply appropriate documentation can reach out to the certification manager at certifications@breastcare.org for assistance. NCBC abides by the ADA requirements for testing accommodations. For a list of required documents, visit https://www.ada.gov/regs2014/testing_accommodations.html.
Exam study material will be sent as a pdf via email within 7 days of registration. If you do not receive it in this time frame, please check your junk mail and then if you still don’t see it please call the office.
Test results will be sent via email within 3 weeks of taking the exam.
NCBC is in the process of accrediting its certification through the National Commission of Certifying Agencies. Examinations will not be offered online, as this would compromise the certification. It is hoped that individuals who wish to be certified are currently navigating breast patients as part of their job, and are familiar with many, if not all, aspects of navigation for a breast care/cancer patient. Although experience is not a condition of certification eligibility, the beta testing results to date have revealed that experience has a direct correlation to the level of success of taking the certification examination.
